Tulsa is a city that encourages us to be the best we can be. KJRH Channel 2 news anchor Karen Keith is a good example.
This year, Keith joins some prestigious company as the recipient of the coveted national American Women In Radio and Television's National Star Award.
Other winners have included Nina Totenberg of National Public Radio, Carole Simpson of ABC news and Sonya Friedman of CNN.
Come celebrate with Karen when AWRT honors her dedication to the broadcast industry and to Tulsa with a dinner and roast June 27 at the Sunset Grill, 3410 S. Peoria Ave. Cocktails will begin at 6 p.m. with the dinner and roast following at 7. Proceeds from the event will help support the many activities of the local AWRT chapter.
In addition to encouraging members like Keith to realize their potential, the organization also supports the community with such programs as awarding Saidie Adwon/Jack Cresse Scholarships at the University of Tulsa, providing area hospitals with videos and equipment for pediatric units, and making donations of money or equipment to local groups such as Sojourner's Inn, Family and Children's Services and the Center for the Physically Limited.
Because Silver Label is the name of Keith's company that designs clothing for the elderly, the highest patron level carries that designation.
Silver Label patrons, at $1,000, receive reservations for 10 with preferred seating, program credit and recognition in a special video presentation at the event.
Other levels include Gold Label at $500 and Bronze Label at $300. For reservations or more information, call Karen Framel at 748-1418.
